The Senders

New York City-based band formed in 1976 by and . They disbanded in 1983 but were again active from 1988 to 1994, and finally from 1997 to 2001. The Senders started by exiled French rock 'n' roll singer Philippe Marcade and professional boxer / bassist Steve Shevlin. With help from their friend Johnny Thunders, they become a staple on Max's Kansas City. Guitarist Wild Bill Thompson and drummer Marc Bourset joined in 1979. Shevlin became deaf, and Richie Lure (Brother of Walter Lure) joined in his place. Bourset, and then Lure passed away by drug related deaths in 1997. Their places were taken by Ned Brewster and Danny Ly respectively. Marcade passed away in 2023.
