Boney M. was the creation of the German producer Frank Farian. On the first single "Baby, Do You Wanna Bump" (1975), Farian performed all vocals himself. The group was formed only after a performing troupe was needed for TV appearances. The most well-known lineup was soon formed: Marcia Barrett, Bobby Farrell, Liz Mitchell, and Maizie Williams. Reggie Tsiboe replaced Farrell in 1982. Best known for the 1978 hit "Rivers Of Babylon", Boney M. had consistent success in the charts in Germany and Europe between 1976 and 1984, with million-selling albums and numerous hit singles, including "Daddy Cool", "Ma Baker", "Rasputin", "Mary's Boy Child", "Malaika" and "Kalimba de Luna". Farian announced the end of Boney M. as a recording group in 1986. Nevertheless, a couple of singles and the occasional new track have appeared on the numerous 'best of' compilations. Boney M. has also continued to perform ever since, with all members appearing in their own formations, except for Tsiboe - and Farrell, who passed away in 2010.
