Steve Braund (aka Steven Maxwell von Braund) is an Australian synthesist, saxophonist and composer. In 1970, 23-year-old saxophonist, Steve (Maxwell Von) Braund left Melbourne for London. There he was exposed to progressive music sounds with bands like East of Eden, The Keith Hartley Band, Hawkwind, Neu, Tangerine Dream, and Ash Ra Tempel as well as seeing these bands when they passed through London. After three years Von Braund got married and headed back to Australia, reconnecting with the scene and bands he left behind. It was here he met . Green provide the impetus for Von Braund’s solo debut Monster Planet by passing on the message that Jeremy and Daniel from the Pipe Imported Record store wanted to start a label (Clear Light of Jupiter), by writing lyrics for Monster Sky and otherwise being an ally for Von Braund’s sonic experiments. Von Braund and Green started jamming together and then formed Cybotron. Before long the duo had developed something of a cult following, playing all the universities, including a high profile show at the planetarium, and even supporting Split Enz. Drummer was added to the line-up and from 1978 - 1983 played with Cybotron during their live performances.. Cybotron went on to release three albums and almost achieve breakthrough success before breaking up in the early eighties. In August 2020, Braund released Return to Monster Planet, a collection of previously unreleased 'lost' tracks spanning 1974 - 1981.
