Jamaican reggae and ska group formed in 1963 as a vocal band, The Wailin' Wailers, by , Peter Tosh, , , Ermine 'Cherry Smith' Bramwell and . The Wailers became the name of the backing band of Bob Marley (in Bob Marley & The Wailers) when Peter Tosh and Bunny Wailer left the group in 1974 (even if some Lee Perry productions like [m=79398] or [m=192201] from 1970 and 1971 used the Bob Marley & The Wailers credit yet) but were still credited as The Wailers on Bob Marley & The Wailers albums (in credits). After Bob Marley's death in 1981, the group played with artist like Alpha Blondy, , or .
